Overview of Washington State

Washington is the 18th largest state by land mass and the 13th most populous state in America. Similar to the state of Oregon, more than half of Washington's residents live in the Seattle metro area.

JMA Properties currently serves only Clark County and Vancouver, Washington in the Southern part of Washington state. One reason for this is that a unique feature of the Portland metro area is that it extends across state lines. Thus, to better serve all residents of the Portland metro area we have expanded to have agents and offices in both states.

If you are considering whether to live in Vancouver, Washington, you should know that a major difference between Oregon and Washington lies in how the residents are taxed. The state of Oregon has no sales tax but has a relatively high personal income tax rate. The state of Washington has a relatively high sales tax rate but but no personal income taxes. For some individuals residing in the Portland metro area, the variance in tax policy can be a significant determinant in where to live.
