Sellwood Real Estate
Neighborhood Overview
Sellwood is quiet residential neighborhood situated on a bluff on the East bank of the Willamette river. It is very pedestrian friendly with wide sidewalks and a vibrant retail district, including a diverse selection of mainstream and ethnic restaurants and a variety of independent retailers. Sellwood is very community oriented and enjoys an almost quaint small town atmosphere.
The small town character can probably be attributed in part to its origins as an independent town that was eventually annexed into the city of Portland in 1893. It is home to a well known antique row for acclaimed vintage shopping, and has a number of historic buildings along the main commercial blocks. The local restaurants. cafes, and pubs include a wide variety of cuisines such as Italian, Thai, Greek, Mexican, and Vietnamese.

Parks & Recreation
On the west end of Sellwood is the Oaks Amusement Park, one of the oldest and longest running amusement parks in the country. There are also four major parks in the Sellwood-Westmoreland area: the Sellwood Park, Sellwood Riverfront Park, Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, and the Westmoreland Park.
The Sellwood Park is located on a bluff above the river, and has baseball, basketball, and tennis courts, along with picnic tables and a community swimming pool that is open in the summer time. Immediately downhill from this is the Sellwood Riverfront Park which has a small dock, an offleash area for dogs, and access to trails including the Springwater Corridor trail. The trails lead into the Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge, which offers 140 acres of natural habitat and wetlands, with hiking trails around the perimeter. Finally, the Westmoreland Park at McLoughlin Blvd & Bybee has 42 acres with basketball courts, baseball & football fields, and many paths and picnic areas.
Real Estate
The majority of the residential properties in Sellwod are older single family homes in the Arts & Crafts and Bungalow styles, with a few larger condo and townhomes developments along the riverfront and scattered about primarily in the area South of Tacoma. Many homes offer easy pedestrian access to parks, trails, and shopping, and some of the condos offer riverfront views.
