East Portland was originally an independent city, and was annexed into Portland in 1891. In the present day it is a central part of the Portland metro area and home to 13 diverse neighborhoods who collectively form the East Portland Neighborhood Office. Powell Butte is an urban refuge that offers gorgeous views of the city and extensive day-hiking trails.
